District Energy began providing district heating service in 1983 and presently serves 80 percent of the buildings in downtown St. Paul and adjacent areas, including the State Capitol Complex and 300 single-family homes.

District Cooling has experienced rapid growth since the company began providing cooling service in 1993. It currently serves about 60% of the buildings in downtown St. Paul and continues to expand its service area.
