a flair for finance
Pam Sarne joined Ever-Green Energy in June, as Director of Accounting. Her responsibilities include reviewing monthly transactions, reporting, and annual auditing of the financial statements and tax filings. Pam is also responsible for financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting, as well as financial reporting of business information used to support manage-ment decisions.
Growing up on a farm near the town of Fairfax, located in southwest Minnesota, she is a self-described "citified" farm girl. "I don't even know how to drive a tractor," Pam admits, "but I do have an appreciation for produce direct from the garden." After graduating high school she enrolled at the University of Minnesota and earned an Accounting, B.S. degree and later returned to complete an M.B.A. in Finance.
Pam arrives at our organization with a wealth of experience from several prominent local corporations including Hubbard Broadcasting, Ecolab, and Deluxe. After five years of public accounting, she decided to take her career in a slightly different direction and work for a privately held company. She landed a job as a staff accountant at a start-up company named USSB. This company was privately owned by the Hubbard family (KSTP-TV, KS95 radio etc.) USSB had been in development for a number of years and they finally had the technology, FCC licenses and licenses with program providers to launch the business. USSB was one of the first companies to sell programming for the newly developed 18" satellite dishes.
In hindsight, this turned out to be a very unique opportunity for her and the following outlines her description of the process. "I started shortly after the launch of the service. The company grew very rapidly, and within two years went public. I helped with the IPO process and the quarterly earnings reports. Two years later, the decision was made to sell the company to DirecTV. I was one of two finance staff that was told of the decision and helped with the due diligence process. It was a relief when the sale was announced publicly and I didn't have to keep that secret any longer! Finally, the last six months with the company were helping to transition the financial systems and records into the DirecTV accounting processes. In five short years, I lived through the life-cycle of a company."
Pam's family includes Abby,17, Matt,15, (both born on the same day) and their 12 year-old dog, Libby. Being a spectator is difficult for her so she gets involved in a lot of their activities and especially enjoys the role of timer for their swim meets.
Reading a variety of titles from tear jerkers to historical, and historical fiction, is a favorite pastime, along with traveling, gardening and cooking. Pam's fun-loving spirit and witty manner shines through in a quote she likes to share: "Don't sweat the petty things, don't pet the sweaty things."
