green business is good business
Securian Financial Group chose Earth Day 2009 to announce that its nine-year-old 401 Building in downtown Saint Paul has earned the prestigious LEED® EB certification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings.
“Our goal with the design and construction of the 401 Building was to combine cost-effective operation with aesthetics and workplace efficiencies,” says Julio Fesser, Securian’s director of facilities services. “Access to District Energy means the company’s downtown campus does not need boilers or chillers, and makes a huge contribution to the facility’s environmental sustainability.”
In addition to the 401 Building, Securian’s adjacent 400 Building, built in 1982, was also designed for district heating and cooling service. Both buildings have earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR, the national symbol for superior energy efficiency.
District Energy is proud that its renewable energy services are a key component of Securian’s sustainability and environmental stewardship initiatives.
