District Energy Is a Great Example...
Fossil fuels currently provide more than 85 percent of our energy, and the International Energy Agency says the world will need almost 60 percent more energy in 2030 than we did in 2002. To meet this demand we are going to have to pursue a number of initiatives — traditional (but cleaner) energy sources, conservation, and importantly, renewable energy sources. Fossil fuels are nonrenewable resources that take millions of years to make; our supplies will eventually become depleted and will not be able to meet all of our future energy needs.
District Energy is a great example of the type of "alternative" sources we'll need to create. District Energy provides our community with access to reliable, efficient and affordable energy systems that reduce pollution and meet our local demand for energy. For more than 20 years, the company has provided Ecolab with a reliable and efficient energy source that is consistent with our commitment to manage the environmental impact of our operations while sustaining economic growth and competitiveness.
Energy conservation and efficiency, as well as the use of renewable energy sources, will all be necessary to meet future energy needs and help protect our environment. District Energy's efforts in these areas can serve as best practices for sustainable energy management that can be more broadly implemented.
