District Energy St. Paul’s legacy of innovation profiled in District Energy Magazine cover story

 

District Energy St. Paul is featured in the latest edition of District Energy Magazine as part of the June 2025 cover story, ‘A modern round of Twin Cities firsts.’

The piece highlights the development of district energy in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, spanning back decades, as well as the advancements in modern technology made by District Energy St. Paul and other systems. The story covers District Energy’s origins in 1983, one of the first systems in North America to transition from steam to hot water. The article touches on District Energy’s many innovations over the years, including the addition of biomass, the elimination of coal, and the installation of what will become Minnesota’s first geo-exchange with aquifer thermal energy storage system.

The International District Energy Association annual conference will be held in Minneapolis on June 2-5, 2025. District Energy St. Paul and Ever-Green Energy will offer tours of the District Energy St. Paul plant and the Main Energy Plant at the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities as part of the event.
