Katherine Verhasselt

Senior Vice President, Chief People and Communications Officer

Katherine Verhasselt joined District Energy and its affiliated companies in 2013 and leads the human resources, marketing, and public relations teams. She uses her background in communications and approachability, alongside decades of experience facilitating essential and sometimes difficult conversations, to work alongside company leaders, translating business strategy and priorities into an integrated internal and external communications program.

Her background in communications and human resources in both the public and private sector allows Katherine to deftly craft and communicate key messages throughout our team. She also supports governance work conducted through our Boards and serves as a key sounding board and advisor to the CEO and other members of senior leadership.

“While each of our core values help me navigate priorities and decisions, People Matter is the value I utilize most in my role,” Katherine explains. “Our people are at the core of what we do, whether they are employees, customers, or stakeholders, ensuring their wellbeing and respect is a priority. A desire to take care of people is what eventually steered me toward an interest in human resources, and my communications background has served me well in communicating internally and externally with clarity and transparency.”

Katherine holds a BS in journalism and advertising from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire.
